How does an evening of free outdoor games and fun sound? What about free admission to a museum campus, with a food truck available if hunger strikes? Well, you are in luck, the Raymond-Casco Historical Society will host a “Night at the Museum” where guests can partake in a variety of games, all while taking in the museum campus for free.
Sue Pride is Collection manager for the Raymond-Casco Historical Society.
“We are hosting a family night of fun on our beautiful campus lawns for an evening of outdoor games,” she said. We are looking to repeat this fun night again this summer.”
Pride says that they have been wanting to do this kind of event, sort of like an old-fashioned block party. The concept was originally pitched by RCHS member Greg Plummer. While he’s not hosting the RCHS Early Bird Show on YouTube, Plummer can be found doing a variety of renovations and upkeep at the facility.
Kim Allen of RCHS is helping organize the upcoming event.
“The lawn games evening is the result of several people mentioning that the well-groomed lawns around the RCHS museum would be ideal for lawn games. We quickly chose three popular games – croquet, badminton, and lawn darts,” she said. “We decided to have the whole campus open during the event to keep people engaged. Games are free of charge, geared for all ages with no special skills required. Come to have fun.”
Allen said that Cormier’s Dog House of Windham will be on site with their food truck selling hot dogs and snacks for anyone who gets hungry.
Things are really bustling at RCHS this year. Aside from the Honey Bee Family Celebration, the museum forge is open for demonstrations most weekends, with free admission for everyone.
Pride says she’s pleased with the increased community interest in RCHS, with the recent Canal Boats in Sebago presentation filling the house.
“This summer I have put on various hats including publicity, event coordinator, setting up displays, putting packets together, even caterer for our events,” she said. “With all the board members and volunteers, we get it done. Greg Plummer works tirelessly contributing to RCHS.”
She said that she has even started painting on reclaimed blackboard sections from the Casco Memorial School as a fundraiser.
Pride is excited for the upcoming family event.
Please join us and " let the good times roll,” she said.
Visitors are reminded to arrive early and are welcome to tour the campus to visit the collections and displays.
“Night at the Museum” is open and free to the public. Donations are always welcomed to support collections, exhibits, and programs.
The Raymond-Casco Historical Society Museum is located at 1 Shadow Lane in Casco.
